Magazine Cover Review

MAGAZINE COVER REVIEW (blog post 2) 

A few magazines that I'm going to be talking about are GQ, Rolling Stones, Sports Illustrated, Vouge, and Cosmopolitan. Each of these articles that I'm going to be talking about all had very eye-catching covers with interesting photos of very well-known celebrities on them.  

My initial impression of the GQ cover was very intriguing. The cover had Travis Scott on the front with dark colors, very mysterious looking. The text was very bright and bold with flames coming from the text. This automatically brings in the reader's attention because of the way the cover is structured and promoted by Travis Scott, a very well-known celebrity. The target audience is men for this magazine, containing a very basic, plain content page. The two feature pages tie in with the cover page, having the flames coming from a few words and very dark mysterious pictures of Travis Scott each page.  

The next magazine I'm going to focus on is Rolling Stones. The cover of this magazine has a popular rapper, Lil Baby, standing in front of this riot from the BLM. The camera angle is taken from a downward area. The magazine decided to involve politics saying, “Trump’s riot Against America”, which obviously shows they are far left. The content and feature articles are very bold but plain. They both make a big statement without having to add so much clutter, using basic black and white colors. On the cover it contains gratify and the classic Rolling Stones logo in the back.  

Switching up magazines, Sports Illustrated has the classic perfect girl on the cover drawing the reader's attention, while also keeping the logo and extra writing simple and classy. This Sports Illustrated magazine is the Swimsuit Issue that has all confident women in bathing all over the magazine. Each page is an eye catcher, many men buy this magazine and hope to god that their wife's think that the magazine is “sports” related.  

The next magazine I want to focus on is the Vouge issue. Rihanna is on the cover with a straight up, blank, basic, empowering photo which focuses on fashion, she is wearing a Burberry outfit which comes off as a bit masculine. Throughout the magazine its very modern, containing grey tone colors, and has black/ grey lettering. Vouge is known for high end fashion and for supporting empowering genders of all types showing it through fashion. This advertisement is high end all the way.  

The last magazine I want to talk about is Cosmopolitan. The target of this magazine is young women specifically, on the cover it says, “wear a damn mask”, so obviously they support that and are trying to persuade the readers to listen to them by putting a famous celebrity, Joey King, on the cover. They decided to incorporate politics. 

Even though a movie trailer seems interesting on doing for my portfolio project, I think I'm going to stick to a magazine because it seems more interesting for me personally.
